CNSC – Entienza Campus: A Noble Dream from Brilliant Minds and Generous Hearts

Dr. Wenifredo T. Oñate received the torch of leadership of Camarines Norte State College (CNSC) in August 2004. The rite of passage paved the way for this creative, dynamic and generous guy to infect with his hunger to make education accessible to remote areas. This he did with such virulence that his Presidential Assistant for External Affairs, Manolo A. Carbonell, and his company of untiring people exhausted all means to make their common goal a reality.

With the College President’s all out support and guidance, Camarines Norte State College-Entienza Campus (CNSC-EC) was conceived and the blazing advocacy for educating the youth had touched the gateway to this province in Sitio Lobo, Tabugon, Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte.

A noble dream which started from a casual conversation among three long-time friends, Manolo A. Carbonell, Nilo G. Odi, and Wilfredo F. Junsay, all alumni of Camarines Sur State Agricultural College (now Central Bicol State University of Agriculture) drafted the first pages of Entienza Campus History. The unified efforts of Mr. Salvador T. Suyo, and the ever visible Sangguniang Bayan Member, Hon. Manuel Gabitanan who regularly represented the Mayor, Hon. Dominador G. Mendoza, until finally in June 13, 2007, the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the CNSC Administration and MLGU Sta. Elena to provide salaries for two (2) faculty to teach in the newly born campus was approved.

It is through God’s grace that the selflessness of Ret. Judge Antonio C. Entienza and his children, the first tertiary state institution in the town was opened adjacent to the Leocadio Alejo Entienza High School. Even in the conception of putting up this campus, the CNSC President, Dr. Wenifredo T. Oñate, never doubted its realization amidst surrounding negative factors, both human and circumstantial. He was and still, 100% in support in all activities the youngest CNSC Campus is undertaking.

The deed of donation was signed with Mr. Benmar I. Mago, Mr. Noli S. Dipasupil, Engr. Ramon A. Orbita and Dr. Job B. Imperial as witnesses. The valuable participation of Mr. Rene N. Abrera, the faculty trustee as movant during the BOT meeting pursued the opening of the campus.

The education of youth, as one of the priorities of the administration of Hon. Mayor Dominador G. Mendoza, congruent with the dynamism of the Hon. Aristeo E. Jopio, the Barangay Chairperson of Tabugon, fully supported and unopposed by his Barangay Council, Sangguniang Kabataan, Barangay Police and his constituents, resulted in the “bayanihan” which sped up the construction of the make-shift classrooms of the campus. The administration building was constructed through the generosity of Hon. Congressman Renato J. Unico Jr. With everything set, the CNSC President approved its formal opening on July 2, 2007.

The Campus Director, Mr. Manolo A. Carbonell and the three other faculty members, Ms. Tomasa Fe P. Mañago, Ms. Melriza S. Baliza and Ms. Carmi Bracino, were formally introduced to the students and parents. Ms. Agnes L. Pan, the fifth faculty member came on July 5, 2007. The number of students reached 100 which exceeded the expected number by 20%.

In the afternoon of the same date, the welcome program for the freshmen was staged with the theme, “The Achievers are the Pioneers”. The said occasion was graced by no less than the Hon. Mayor of Sta. Elena, Dominador G. Mendoza; the CNSC-President, Dr. Wenifredo T. Oñate and Mr. Leocadio J. Entienza, the son of the donor.

The day ended with the challenge posed by Dr. Oñate for the faculty, students and parents to take part in the development of the Campus and be known for its quality service not only in Camarines Norte but in the Bicol region and nearby provinces.

The succeeding days were serious days, with destiny and high hopes of making this Campus stand up on its own towards the future in its aim in producing value-laden graduates who shall become productive citizens of the country. In the past eight years, the CNSC-Entienza Campus, despite of being the youngest among the units of the College , surpassed the challenges and continually strived in providing quality service to its clienteles and is highly motivated in continuously making a difference in contributing to the attainment of the institution’s vision, mission and goals.

This campus has an unwavering commitment in realizing the dreams of great people, of brilliant minds and with passion of helping people – no other than those who stood as pillars of the Entienza Campus History.
