EMPOWERING COMMUNICATION: A Training in Gender-Fair Sign Language for the Men and Women of the CNSC Workforce (Phase 1)

By: CNSC PICRO, 2025

Can you imagine the excitement one feels learning a new language and being immersed in it? Well, that’s what exactly happened yesterday to the invited participants of the CNSC – Center for Equity, Inclusivity and Diversity.
The activity, EMPOWERING COMMUNICATION: A Training in Gender-Fair Sign Language for the Men and Women of the CNSC Workforce (Phase 1) brought anticipation to one and all in knowing how to demonstrate the alphabet, basic greetings (good morning, good afternoon, happy birthday, merry Christmas), names of the members of the family (father, mother, brother, grandfather, baby), numbers (1 to 100), days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday…), months (January, February, march…), the WH-questions (who, what, when, where, and why), structures (clinic, library, hospital), basic verbs (read, write, jump, eat), and the call for help – all by using the fingers of the hands! It created a deeper understanding for our deaf-mute brothers and sisters.
Ms. Roxanne V. Orendain and Ms. Nerelyn L. Padrigon were the event’s resource speakers with the aid of Ms. Princess Alcantara and Mr. Peter Solano. They were from the Provincial Disability Affairs Office.
The worthwhile endeavor was made possible through the initiative of the CEID headed by Dr. Delma Jean V. Abad, Disability Inclusion Officer Ms. Mailyn Q. Alarcon, MSHRM, with the complete representation of all GAD coordinators of the different campuses of CNSC. The same is in celebration of the 47th National Disability Rights Week.
