Prof. TS. Dr. Zaiton Sapak of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Malaysia and Dr. Arlene C. Alegre of the Queen Pineapple Research and Development Institute (QPRDI) formally concluded their three-month collaborative research with an exit conference held today, June 4, 2025, at the VPs Conference Room. The meeting focused on the joint study titled “A Study on Fungi Associated with Fruit Rot Diseases in Pineapple: A Case Study in Camarines Norte, Philippines, and Peninsular Malaysia.” The study, conducted in two phases, began here at CNSC – QPRDI Laboratory from March to June 2025, and will continue at UiTM from June to August 2025. Preliminary findings were presented during the exit meeting, highlighting significant insights into pineapple crops. Key points discussed included the planned presentation of the research at the 57th Post Management Council of the Philippines Annual Scientific Conference in Palawan from July 7 to 11. Dr. Zaiton of UiTM also committed to partnering with CNSC in organizing the 2nd International Congress on Pineapple in 2026. Additionally, discussions are underway for an international publication—a compendium on pineapple diseases—in collaboration with scientists from Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The exit conference was attended by CNSC key officals, including deans, directors, and Dr. Maria Cristina C. Azuelo (VPAF) and Dr. Rosalie A. Almadrones (VPRE), along with Dr. Marlo M. De La Cruz, SUC President III of CNSC, who expressed support for the expanding international collaboration in research.
